What is name for the technique in toccata and fugue?

I'm talking about toccata and fugue in d minor by JS Bach. and i am talking about the part where the fugue starts and it plays a-g-a-f-a-e-a-d-a-c# returning to the principle note.

Bariolage.
If those notes were played on the violin, the first 9 notes could be played with every other note on the D string and every other note an open A string.
In early Eighteenth Century violin music, there was a lot of this sort of thing.

Some people doubt that Bach actually wrote this piece, since it doesn't obey some of the quirks of Bach's style.
But I think that whoever did write the piece was a violinist.

Thanks for looking at our information.
