Do they make weatherproof bags for luggage so I can strap my suitcase to my rack on my car and it not get wet?
Hi there. So my hubby, 3 year old, 8 month old and I are driving 1,000 miles Friday to go visit family up north. The car we are taking is an ok size (not super tiny) but when you add up all the baby stuff we have to take it would really help if we could tie our huge suitcase to the rack on the top of my car. Do they sell like a weatherproof bag for suitcases for situations like this? Not online but like somewhere I could go pick it up (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.)? I don't want to spend $200 on the big fiberglass things they have if I'm only going to use it like once every few years. All input is appreciated. 
We picked up one at Wal-Mart thinking that it would be easy enough to store extra stuff on the roof when I drive to Philadelphia to pick up my brother from college. Unfortunately, since I was driving a Honda Civic at the time, the bag was just way too big and didn't securely fit on.
The problem I found with them is just that you need to be extremely cautious about any openings/tears on the bag itself. Our cousins had a roof bag and was packing up. Her whole car was filled up, and the whole bag on the roof just busted open on the highway and she had to pull over and try to retrieve some of the items. Most of the items were already destroyed. I won't even mention what happened when she was traveling with 2 cats in the car, that managed to get out of the cage.
I am going to do my best to edit this answer and add on if i come up with more advice and tips for your waterproof bag search. I am currently in the process of packing up for a trip to San Fransisco, so I will definitely do my best to run some more research and see what I can find for you.
The Wal-mart bag, now that you mention it, does seem to be good for your trip. I believe it was just bad luck on my cousins part, but as long as you know that you need to strap the bag down and make sure it's closed, and its not overflowing you won't have a problem.
