Can I bring my prescriptions on a plane from the US to Australia?
I'm visiting Sydney in December for the first time. I take Klonopin (clonzaepam) 1 mg twice a day and Zypreza (Olanzapine) 2.5 mg twice a day for anxiety. I was looking at the Australian Embassy site and was surprised to see that I need an import permit, import license, and export license and permit for the klonopin, is that correct? Other sites I look at say that I should just keep them in a clear bag with a note from my doctor stating what it is for. Please help! Thank you.
As these are prescribed medicines for your personal use you can take them into Australia. It is good advice to have a copy of your prescription or a letter from your doctor confirming the prescription and to keep the medicines in their original containers. You would not be advised to carry these in your checked bags in case they go astray, take them on as hand luggage. Provided these are in tablet or powder form you do not need to take any special precautions. If they are liquids and the bottles hold more than 3.4fl oz you will need to take them out of your luggage and show them to the security staff at the airport of departure so they can exempt then from the 3.1.1 rules.
