PHYSICS problem HELP?
A girl is riding her bicycle. When she gets to a corner, she stops to get a drink from her water bottle. At that time, a friend passes by her, traveling at a constant speed of 8.0 m/s.
(a) After 20 s, the girl gets back on her bike and travels with a constant acceleration of 2.2 m/s^2. How long does it take for her to catch up with her friend?
I tried to solve i but I dont know how to approach this. I know the answer is 20s from the back of book . but no idea on how to do it. i keep getting 16 .7 s when i solve the final eq by the quadratic formula
a= Vf-Vi/t looking for velocity
2.2 = Vf-Vi/20
44= Vf-Vi
we don't know what Vi is so we can't use d=vit + .5at^2
Vf= Vi + at
rearrange the formula to vf-vi = at we know what vf-vi equals
solve: 44= 2.2t
t= 20 sec
oh yea dallas SUCKS!!!!!
