Why does the mainstream "copy" countercultures sometimes?
For example, take a look at Disney and American Idol:
The Jonas Brothers sing Pop, yet they wear emo/scene jeans (purple/red/white), colored studded belts, tight vests.(emo)
David cook,who sings alt./hard rock, has a video where he wears leather pants, wallet chain and i saw a pic of him wearing black work boots with pants tucked in.(metal)
Adam Lambert, with his poprock, wears emo stuff.
Look at basically EVERY background band on American Idol,etc. They constantly sport conversed, mohawks, etc.
So why does the mainstream do this?
Yes, there are some talented mainstream musicians, I ain't that closed minded.
How are you defining "mainstream"? Performers are free to dress however they want, so if something one wears seems "counter-culture" to you it may not be to the person wearing it. It has long been the case that what celebrates do get imitated by the their fans, and once a fashion trend catches on many people will adopt it with no thought or even knowledge of it's origins. When enough people do that it becomes mainstream and times have changed. That's just the way the society works.
