what animal did i hear in rockland county, ny?
i live in rockland county ny just about 30 miles north of nyc. ( pomona to be specific) i always see alot of wildlife around my backyard because i live by a mountain and by alot of woods i always see deer, raccoons, chipmunks, oppossum, and even a skunk once. but yesterday i saw a dog-like, or cat-like creature in my driveway it was a tannish gray color it was about 50 pounds 4 feet long and about 1 and a half feet tall i think it might be a coyote or fox. but some people say they have seen mountain lions on the mountain behind my house. what do you think it is?
Could have been a Gray Fox if the 4 feet includes the long fluffy tail, or a Coyote which looks a lot like the Gray Fox.
I doubt it was a mountain lion unless what your neighbors say is true, there were more abundant in the past when this whole state was forest hundreds of years ago, but not so much anymore. You'd be able to tell by how "bulky" the animal was. If it was a large 4 foot long animal it could be a Mt. Lion, but if it is slender then it was probably a Coyote. You said what Animal did I "hear"... what sound did this animal make?
