What Luggage Will Give Me The Most 'Bang-for-the Buck" ?
I'm going shopping tomorrow for some luggage, or a luggage set. I need help in deciding what luggage will give me the quality I need for both air, and ground travel. Walmart has Protege brand luggage (one set has 3 different sized suitcases for like $50.00ish) And a local discount store has individual Samsonite pieces of luggage that were $250.00, but are for sale for $70.00 each. I'm not sure what size they are, but they are the larger size suitcase-that of which I NEED. I don't need the luggage immediately, but would like the Samsonite before they sell out! I'm flying to Florida this winter, and don't want the suitcase to rip apart lol I know its happened before! Please give me suggestions and help me ASAP! Thanks everyone! 
P.S. Are the Protege brand luggage from Walmart dependable and durable? Theres mixed reviews online...
Your question was very well asked. For air travel you must be careful of both size and weight. The airlines can (and will) charge you fees for both overweight and over sized luggage at the same time.The fees apply to all legs of your flight and can add up to more than another ticket.
I have found that a 25" bag is the most convenient size for a checked bag. It can hold a good volume of stuff without going over 50 pound (filled). I have a 22" inch carry on with wheels. It just barely fits into the overhead compartment and I have to put it in wheels first. The last time I flew, an employee for the airline stopped my husband and me (thankfully before the TSA inspection) and had us put our carry ons into a box so she could see that they were the correct size. We ended up pulling out our jacket/sweaters from the outside pouches, because the bag would not fit unless we did. If I were to buy a new carry on, I would like it to be the 21" size.
I tend to stay away from budget stores/brands when shopping for luggage, because the guys who get it into the plane seem to be having a contest to see who can throw a bag the farthest. Combine that with the carousel and other machinery and cheap luggage does not stand up well. On the other hand I will not spend money on luxury bags either. They don't last any longer than middle of the road, main stream baggage. I think getting a few bags at a store like TJ Max is a great idea. Samsonite is what my husband has and my daughter bought to go to Columbia, South America to teach. You might want to invest in a portable luggage scale. They look like a scale that you would hang a fish on. They can save you lots of money in the long run. Then take it with you to the store and you can also compare the weights of the bags empty. Some of them are shockingly heavy without anything in them.
