Wasn't the "New 7 wonders" campaign JUST a money spinner for Swiss filmmaker and museum curator Bernard Weber
Although being an Indian, I was enthralled to see the Taj included in the list, but many heritage sites weren't represented properly, besides it wasn't supported by UN either!
Also the SMS campaign is absurd.....provided any person could vote many times!!
I guess it was my mistake for choosing the wrong category!
Personally, I think having a "vote" for the wonders is a bit absurd, because the only thing to motivate the average voter would be a sense of nationalism. If there was any need to appoint new wonders of the world, it should be done by the people most capable of judging these feats of architecture: a council of architects. They could just the structures properly based on set criteria & without bias. This, in my opinion, would have been the best method.
Also, I think there are so many wonderful feats of architecture in the world today, perhaps each country ought to have their own votes for seven wonders of within their borders. I am in the U.S., & I appreciate great architecture the way a lot of people look at paintings. Too me, these structures are works of art in their own right. Here in the U.S., I can think of several good nominees to be the Seven Wonders of the United States of America: The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Palace of Art in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, the Stratosphere Tower, & the Fremont Experience in Las Vegas just to name a few. I think most people can think of at least seven architectural structures in their country which they consider wonderous. Besides the Taj Mahal, are there 6 other structures in India which impress you? I think it would be an interesting premise.
